Entfernungmesser 0,9 m R & Azimuth Tripod (for Heavy Panzers). The EM 0,9 meter (R) was a rangefinder device that is commonly mistaken for a Scherenfernrohr (SF) due to its scissor-shape optical stalks. The 0,9 operates in a different function in that it was designed to provide heavy panzer commanders (Tiger I & II, Jagdtiger & Jagdpanther) with the ability to estimate long-range distances with which their fired rounds were striking or where he hoped they would strike. They were stereoscopic in nature & the operator had to have perfect 3D vision in order to properly orient the image and the scale reticle or else the EM 0,9 (R) was ineffective. This one has had a post war over paint removed to show the original ordnance tan paint. This process has also expossed some base metal. Marker marked 'blc' for Carl Zeiss Optische Instrumente, Militarabteilung, Jena. The right eye piece rubber has split (easily repairable), otherwise in overall, very good condition & clear optics. The azimuth tripod, with clinometer dial & level balance bubble still retains its original panzer grey paint & is also 'blc' maker marked. It is in very good condition, but the glass on level bubble is cracked. The EM 0,9 (R) had a limited production run during 1943, making these rare & very hard to find. Although they have mis-matched paint finishes, I was very fortunate to find both pieces.
